What is charity?

“Nothing brings me greater happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. This is the goal and an essential part of my life - a kind of destiny. Those in distress can call me. I will resort to wherever they are. " © Princess Diana

As before, we continue our column "What is charity for you?". We will meet and talk about this topic with three completely different people who are involved in volunteering. Each time we ask our guests the most important questions: "What does charity mean to them?", "Is it worth advertising your activities?" and "Is charity a social duty of each of us?" And maybe some of our guests will be able to inspire you with their example, someone’s words will give strength for new beginnings, and someone will dispel your doubts about this topic.

Luba Yunak , singer, candidate of psychological sciences, crisis therapist in the pediatric oncology department, volunteer, author of personality development studio "2live4art", speaker of the "Green School" and environmental organizations:

Any, what does "charity" mean to you?

It’s about creativity, definitely. It is very interesting to do good! This is not about karma or nobility - but more about a personal quest. As a child, I thought, “I’m going to raise enough money and build an animal shelter. I will adopt all the children from orphanages, and I will give the homeless a hotel to stay in. " Now I understand that even when you do not have enough money in your pocket - today, you can create a miracle with just one gesture: signing a petition, "expanding" the post, expressing an opinion on social media on the vision of solving a global problem. I even have a topic for a lecture for active, social youth in a humorous way - "How to save the world if you do not have enough for a burger."

You have a fairly busy schedule, but at the same time, you still find time to work in the direction of art therapy, with children. What inspires you in this? What motivates you to deal with them?

I love children and their state of inner freedom the most. This is what inspires. I learn a lot from them. Psychology is my first and main professional interest. There are many cognitive areas in it, which I studied, but working with creative energy is the most intimate for me. Through creativity - a person shows his pain. It is a bridge to his general condition, unmanifested feelings, protective mechanisms and personal resources. Music, dance, poetry, drawing - it’s all about inner freedom. Through freedom we know ourselves, which means we become little children. After graduating from the Faculty of Psychology, I entered graduate school and began to apply my personal creative approach in practice. At first it was just a dance club, a plastic theater, classical ballet - now I have my own studio of free personality development "2live4art". Vocal therapy, shadow theater, classical ballet, contempo, dance and movement therapy, yoga, physical orientation. The same methods work tremendously with children and parents who are in the oncology department and undergoing treatment. Art therapy is also necessary for children with disabilities. Motivation alone is the only effective method of work and help. And if I know how effective it works, how can I not? Can I afford it? It’s like "you know the secret of healing tea, but you don’t tell others its recipe." who are in the oncology department and undergoing treatment. Do you think it is worth advertising the topic of charity?

When a public person acts as a conscientious volunteer, it is very commendable and revealing. He thus sets an example for his audience and says that everyone can be useful! In this case, I consider it permissible to advertise, but in patronage on behalf of a public person - no.

Should rich and public people be the first to help? Or is it everyone’s social duty?

We are all responsible for each other. We are parts of one Nature. There is a tangible connection between us, so the happiness of another person is our own harmony. Social, emotional, psychological, physical. “Who, if not you? When, if not now? ” - In these matters, the key decision is how to turn the world upside down in an instant and make yourself happier with one smile.

Serhiy Verbitsky, ATO veteran, Veterano Coffee leader, volunteer:

Serhiy, what does "charity" mean to you personally?

When I help anyone, I want it to be not in vain, for a person to get on his feet, to have the opportunity to buy food, to be sure that someone needs or needs it! I believe in God! That’s why I never wonder if he will spend my help where it would be better! You always have to help.

Should we advertise our activities in the field of charity ? _ _ Personally, I do not advertise my help, but I still tell people that I need help. Everyone can help , or is it still , for the most part

i , is it the duty of rich people?

In my opinion, everyone can help, regardless of their financial situation. Charity and financial aid are not always the same thing, aid must come from a sincere heart and it cannot always be just in monetary terms.

Sotnichek Olena , a volunteer , helps the families of the military, children, cancer patients , coordinator of the project "Shop to choose" :

Olena, what does "charity" mean to you personally?

As a believer, for me charity is the "Good to Create", that is, to bring good and help other people who need it. Personally, I believe that this is one of our life missions.

Do you think it is worth promoting charity? Will it affect others as a good example, or will it be perceived as self-publicity?

This topic should be brought to the masses and people should be involved in it, because every day more and more people and children need help ... Knowing and facing many cases, I can say for sure that this is a good example for people.
Yes, there are many people who will pass by with their eyes closed, but there will definitely be those who will change their attitude and start helping. Maybe sometimes people perceive it as PR, but indifferent to those who think so. At least, I can say from personal experience that in this way we saved a couple of children, paying attention to ourselves and the situation. Subsequently, we connected the masses of the media, well-known bloggers, and yet together we achieved the desired result, and this is the most important thing.

Do you think that rich and public people should help first? Or is it a social duty of every person?

It seems to me that rich people should help in the first place, because they have many opportunities for this, but I think a very small percentage really helps. It is not in vain that the Bible says, "It is harder for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven," because they are overwhelmed with riches and forget about good deeds and others, at least in our country. Of course, it is everyone’s duty to help, but those who are educated can give so much.

How did your action to create the "Shop of Good" begin?

I have been thinking about creating something social for a long time, and at the end of February, I not only seriously thought about such a social project, but also started making a website and found masters whose works we exhibited at auction. Later, we started collecting money for the treatment of a ward child from a military family. The boy is 7 years old, he has a very complex combined form of the disease, which doctors still can not diagnose. His growth stopped, problems with the liver and other organs began.
We were the first to exhibit books donated by the authors themselves to charity, and then other people came up with various things that they offered to exhibit as lots for this boy. This is how more than 60,000 hryvnias were raised, and later a fundraising group was set up. The meeting itself took place on the card of the boy’s mother, so everything was completely transparent.
